Our history

In the late 1951 came out the idea of a factory, that would build toys for the yugoslavian market. The idea came truth the next year, with the company MEHANOTEHNIKA for the production and sale of metal and plastic goods.
The name Mehanotehnika derive from a compound toy, which was the company's first produced product and was made by own.
The company hasn't had his own place, in the beginning, and only in 1953 got the business premises in Izola and acquires the first machinery. The production started in June 1953 and in the same month, Mehanotehnika was on the market. Soon, the production place was too tightly and Mehanotehnika moved.

The last removal was in 1959, when the production hall of 5000 m2 was built and the company moved at the actual location. In the year 1962 was opened a plant in Materija to produce some semimanufactures. After the 1971, when the first plush toy was manufactered, the Materija plant focused only in the production of it.

In his motley history, the company produced toys, metal and fancy goods. At the beginning the toys were metalic and only later plastic with various electronic parts.

In the sixties, Mehanotehnika started the collaboration with the Chair of infant and youth philosophy from the Faculty of Arts in Ljubljana in the project 'safe toy'. In base of this collaboration, Mehanotehnika produced toys with higher psycho-pedagogical values. The toy evolution trend on the world's toy market has never progressed without Mehanotehnika and the Nürnberg toy fair. This is the biggest toy fair in Europe, and Mehanotehnika's presence there is already a tradition.

The company name became Mehano in the year 1990

Today Mehano is a mostly export company, with 98% export of the production. Mehano is present in almost all the European states and everywhere is represent by its own brand name.

The existence on the world's toy market is possible only with new improvements and techologies and Mehano follows this philosophy.
